The American Association of University Women (AAUW) San Diego Branch encourages personal and professional growth in women of all ages. We support scholarship programs and provide community leadership opportunities – all in the context of developing lifelong friendships with like-minded women.
AAUW San Diego welcomes your participation in advancing gender equity for women and girls. You will find a variety of programs and activities which may appeal to your civic and social interests.
AAUW San Diego Branch is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Contributions made to the Branch General Fund, Local College Scholarship program or Tech Trek science/math camp are tax deductible to the donor.

If you believe in equity for women and girls – in women being able to live a self-determined life – whether on campus, at work, or during retirement, then AAUW San Diego Branch is for you. If camaraderie, intellectual stimulation and the company of women who make a difference matter to you, then you will find yourself at home with AAUW San Diego Branch, with varying membership of 85 to 100 women. Equity means freedom from bias or favoritism and includes the quality of being fair or impartial. AAUW San Diego, in coordination with AAUW California and AAUW national, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, research and philanthropy. Founded in 1911, AAUW San Diego is the original “mother” AAUW organization in San Diego. We serve metropolitan San Diegans from the shores of La Jolla to the eastern slopes of San Diego State University. (Any eligible individual can join AAUW San Diego; however, membership in one of the other AAUW San Diego County branches may be more geographically convenient.)

Voting on Proposed Bylaws Change Closes on May 15th, 9 am PT
AAUW members are voting on an amendment to the national bylaws recommended by the AAUW Board of Directors & AAUW Governance Committee. It would open membership to any individual who supports AAUW’s important mission of advancing equity for women & girls. Voting opened on April 3rd & closes on May 15th at 9 am PT. Results will be announced online.

Congratulations to State Named Gift Honoree Jane Niemeier
At the AAUW California Annual Event on Saturday, April 27th, our own Jane Niemeier was honored as the 2024 State Named Gift Honoree in recognition of her hard work and dedication.
- She is an active dual member of the San Diego & La Mesa-El Cajon Branches.
- She serves as the San Diego Interbranch Council (IBC) liaison.
- She has served in most branch positions including President, Treasurer, & Program Chair.
- She was the 2021-2023 State Nominating Committee chair.
- She served as the 2014 AAUW California Convention Chair.
- She served six years on the AAUW California State Board as Co-President, Program Chair, & State Oversight Committee.
- She has been appointed a director to the AAUW California Special Project Fund (SPF).
San Diego Branch Recognized with Two Stars
Our branch recently received national honors in the FY23 AAUW Five Star Recognition Program for outstanding contributions in two categories, Communications and External Relations & Programs.
Gov Trek 2024
The second annual leadership program for girls in their junior or senior year of high school commenced on February 3rd. It concluded on March 16th at the virtual 2024 Gov Trek Campaign Competition.
Nearly 60 girls from California with diverse backgrounds enrolled in the Gov Trek program to explore careers in public service and elected office. Afternoon Tea to Support Local Scholarships
This was a delightful gathering of members & guests on February 24th at Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Library. Professor Lihini Aluwihare, Scripps Institution of Oceanography Department Chair and Deputy Director for Education, spoke about what led her to SIO and about her work. Lynne Batchelor presented interesting facts about tea and tea culture. Our afternoon tea & treats were indeed delectable.
